Third/ Fourth Grade: October 10-14, 2022

Dear Third and Fourth Grade families,

Thank you all for attending the parent-teacher conferences. I have enjoyed sharing with you about the class and learning more about your family.

Last week, the class was continuing their work on the grains block. In connection with our farming theme, we recite the poem Harvest by Alice Corbin at snack time and sing the poem at lunch. This week, the students painted a picture of a golden wheat field interspersed with red poppies. For the first time, we dappled into painting wet on dry and used a fine-tipped brush to add details. You could hear a pin drop in the classroom when the students painted. Every student worked quietly on their painting. We started with a fine layer of lemon yellow as a background and used golden yellow for the wheat. Then the students added poppy flowers with two different reds. In the end, they used Prussian blue to add stems and seed pods. It was an enjoyable color experience, diving into shades of yellow, orange, and red. The results are beautiful, and it is lovely to see how far the students have come in their practice.

Please remember that the Kingdom of Halloween is coming up soon, and I look forward to seeing your family there. Fall activities and fairy tale actors in the forest will be a magical experience! Now is an excellent opportunity for your child to use their imagination and make their own costume. Be inventive and use what you already have at home! Please remember: no masks or marketed characters.  Additionally, our class is responsible for supporting the Leather Bracelet craft table. Please be on the lookout for sign up information from our class rep. Your volunteer participation is necessary for our Kingdom of Halloween festival’s success. Thank you.
