Kindergarten Turtles: October 25-29, 2022

Greetings Turtle Families,

The Kingdom of Halloween was magical.  Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered,  you all were such a big part of its success! We are grateful for our community!

Last week was a beautiful week in our forest classroom!  Thank you to everyone who came to help us make our lanterns.  It was so nice to have so many visitors in our classroom.  The students loved doing our circle with our guests and showing you around their class.  We enjoyed practicing the lantern songs with you too.  We will continue to practice the three songs at school.  Please practice them with your families at home.  It will be beautiful to hear everyone singing as we walk through our lovely forest together. The Lantern Walk celebrates the inner light that we all carry.  We will use this light to help each other as we enter the darker months of the year.  The walk is reverent and contemplative.  As part of our school's efforts to help others, we will be collecting gently used coats both at the lantern walk and at drop-off and pick-up that week.  The coats will be donated to One Warm Coat, an organization that provides coats for those who need them during the coming cold.

We had another visitor in our class on Thursday,  a beautiful Red Tailed Hawk visited at lunch.  The children were amazed to see such a big bird so close by. It really was breathtaking! We are so fortunate to share our classroom with so many wonderful creatures.

On Friday, we carved our big pumpkin.  It was fun to open it up and see all the gooey insides.  Such a sensory experience.  Some students liked pulling out all of the seeds and separating the seeds from the goop, others did not. Everyone liked seeing what was inside and also smelling it. After the pumpkin was cleaned out, the students decided to draw what they wanted to carve. We then took elements from each drawing and carved our pumpkin.  We ended up with a panther jack-o-lantern. We carried our jack-o-lantern inside to the semi-dark indoor classroom to light it and see it glow. The seeds will be roasted and we will share them on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
