Kindergarten Turtles: November 7-11, 2022

Greetings Turtle Families,

Thank you for attending the lantern walk.  It was a lovely evening together sharing our light and song and it was so nice to have the full moon join us.

Last week was lovely in the forest.  The weather has been unpredictable, so thank you for continuing to send layers for your children.  Some days we needed them and some days we did not. The leaves and acorns continue to fall from the trees and the children find great joy in discovering a particularly beautiful leaf along with collecting and filling their pockets full of acorns. Friday was very rainy and our rain gear was put to the test.

On Wednesday, a student  who was finger knitting had the beautiful idea of making a crown and sewing buttons on it to decorate it.  As she worked, many other students became interested in what she was doing and before long we had many students working on beautiful crowns.  Finger knitting takes patience and time.  Many students discovered that things are not always as easy or quick as they might appear. Several students completed their crowns and brought them home this week.  Several students worked for a time and then put their work in their craft bag to pick up again later.  As the year goes on, the students gain confidence and stamina for these sorts of handwork projects.

In the forest, we used a saw for the first time.  Each student took a turn, one on one with a teacher. We talked about safety and worked together for the first few strokes of the saw.  Then each student was able to continue  sawing until they wanted to stop.  Many students made comments about how hard it was to saw through wood.  They were all proud to see the progress we made as a class on the piece of wood.
