Greetings Turtle Families!
Another wonderful week passed in the Turtle class. The children are learning the words and movements to our circle songs and it is so nice to hear them singing along each morning. Thank you all for remembering your vegetables this week! Happily, we had lots to chop on Tuesday and our soup was delicious! We were able to visit the creek on Wednesday. The children enjoyed playing in the water and sand. Due to heavy rains Wednesday afternoon, we did not go to the creek on Thursday and took a nature walk through our campus instead. We observed many mushrooms along our walk and tried to spot turtles in the pond. Our nature walk ended with some time at the farm. The class enjoyed feeding lots of kudzu to the donkeys and goats.
Throughout the week, each student had the opportunity to create a wool ball using a technique called “wet felting”. After choosing from a selection of colorful wool roving which was then dipped in soapy water, the children rolled the roving back and forth and around into a felted ball. This experience, along with being a lovely sensory time, helps students to develop patience as the loose strands of roving slowly bind to each other to create a more solid form. Each ball was unique and beautiful!
In our forest classroom, the Turtles are continuing to explore the forest play area, digging holes and moving dirt. They enjoy loading the wheelbarrow with dirt and rolling it to another location to unload. This week they worked together to build two stick forts and one of them even has a wood floor! Chase games are another favorite activity in the forest. On the platform, taking care of the babies and stuffed animals continues to provide opportunities for imaginative play. It is exciting to watch their friendships blossom and strengthen as they all become comfortable and confident in our forest classroom!
