Hello Second Grade Families,
Last week we enjoyed sharing the stories of The Horse and the Overloaded Donkey along with The Frog’s Saddlehorse. These stories gave us a variety of new words, some of which were rather challenging. Our word bank was increased greatly, giving the students many choices to use for their sentences. The students were also given time to read independently, allowing them an opportunity to choose their own story and move at their own pace. We also used pumpkins for our artwork. The students were very creative with the drawings that they wanted carved into their pumpkins.
We finished our Language Arts Block last week, and this week we are busy working on our multiplication. There are quite a few games, activities, and manipulatives for us to use. The goal is to help the students increase their store of memorized math facts which will support their success in higher level math skills in later grades. Learning through games, movement, songs, and artistic activities meets a variety of learning styles, keeps everyone interested, and is lots of fun, too.
Fall is in the air, and the leaves are falling, which means the students have a lot of fun “crunching” around through the fallen leaves. The class also enjoyed sharing a morning fire with the first and third graders.
