Kindergarten Turtles: October 2 - 9, 2023

Greetings, Turtle Families,

The fall weather was refreshing this week. We had cool mornings and warm afternoons. Please remember to send your children in layers so that they are comfortable as the temperatures change throughout the day.  Our days at the creek are on hold until Spring as the water is too cold in the mornings. Water shoes will be sent home this week.  We are still enjoying adventures around campus and visited the farm on Wednesday and Thursday this week, spending time with the donkeys, goats, and chickens!

It is apple picking season, and our story, How the Apple Got Its Star, is about a Great Apple Tree who loves to look at the stars at night. The Star Fairy places a star deep inside each apple on the Great Apple Tree’s branches. To complement this lovely story, we cut open an apple each day to find the star hidden inside. On Thursday and Friday we made apple prints using paint. This week the students will make wet felted apples. The class has also been playing a circle game where we pass some wooden apples around the circle while singing My Nice Red Rosy Apple. The lyrics are included below. This is a collaborative game that involves cross-body movements and helps proprioceptive development. Our Autumn circle also incorporates more challenging movements, such as galloping, and we even go on a small adventure through the forest to harvest a pumpkin.  The lyrics and verses from our circle will be shared in the weeks to come.

On Tuesday, we celebrated Caspian’s 5th birthday.  His parents visited our class and shared fun memories from his birth and each year of his life.  Classmates, Teachers, and Caspian’s parents shared a wish for the coming year.  Happy Birthday, Caspian!

MY NICE RED ROSY APPLE

My nice red rosy apple

Has a secret hid unseen.

You'd see if you could look inside

Five rooms so neat and clean.

In each room there are living

Two pips so black and bright.

Asleep they are a-dreaming

Of lovely warm sunlight.
