Dear Fourth and Fifth-Grade Families,
Our class continues to work on our Human and Animal block. In addition to studying animals as a class, the students are getting ready to write individual animal reports. This week, we will model one animal report together before the students set out to write individual reports on an animal of their choice. The students will write their animal reports at school. At home, they will make a diorama with the animal of their choice in its natural habitat. They should use natural materials such as clay, nature items found outdoors, items made of wood, etc., to build their dioramas inside a shoebox. Instructions for the projects will go home on Friday. To prepare for writing and correcting a draft for their project, the class has practiced proofreading sentences for punctuation, capitalization, and spelling errors throughout the week. We will continue this practice throughout the year to hone the students’ writing skills.
The students are working with Mr. Matan on multiple projects simultaneously, one being a surprise for the second-grade class. In Handwork, the students have been sewing beanbags, and the fifth graders have started knitting in the round, thus entering the three-dimensional space to make their first pair of socks.
Thank you all for coming to our workday on Saturday to beautify our campus. Next Wednesday, September 6th, is Curriculum Night! We will enjoy a circle activity, review our weekly schedule, and hear an overview of the Fourth/Fifth Grade curriculum. We look forward to seeing you on campus for this adults-only event.
