Hello, Second Grade Families,
Last week was busy as we used many different methods to expand our developing math skills. New multiplication facts involving the numbers 2 and 3 were introduced and we practiced in a variety of ways to help reinforce these facts. We also reviewed previously learned math facts, helping to solidify our understanding as we went along. Outside, we made a large circle with 12 sticks placed at intervals around the circle like a clock. The students then took turns skip-counting around the circle. As they skipped along, the students placed yarn at each spot they landed to create beautiful geometric shapes that corresponded with their stops along the circle. These shapes represented the different times tables in a colorful and imaginative way. We then drew the images of the different geometric shapes in our main lesson books.
This week we will continue working on multiplication. We will use a life-size board game along with other artistic and movement-based activities to help introduce and reinforce our new math facts. The students continue to work hard and have been vocal about how much they enjoy the new math lessons, games, and activities.
