Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,
Last week, the students said it felt “spooky” in the forest as our platform filled with pumpkins and the air turned cool. Friday, the children enjoyed making pumpkin houses as a class, and they all turned out beautifully. Of course, the highlight of the week was Kingdom of Halloween. It was such a magical night, and it was so fun to see all of you dressed in your costumes! Thank you also to those of you who were able to attend the community meeting last night.
Last week in Math, we continued to practice place value as the children began to work on regrouping. Regrouping is a skill that takes time and practice to master, so they will continue to work on this new skill for the remainder of this year and into their upcoming school year. On Thursday, the children created place value manipulatives in order to allow them to really see how larger numbers are formed. The children enjoyed working with their manipulatives and looking at numbers up to the ten thousands place.
This week, we will conclude our story about Margaret and Fred’s cookie shop, which has accompanied our Math Block. The children will add without regrouping to the millions place, and we will have a small sweet treat to celebrate the end of the story on Friday.
