Hello, Second Grade Families,

Last week, the second graders worked on putting together pieces of their costumes for the play. They were very creative, and it was fun to watch their increasing excitement about the play. The class heard a story called The Frog Who Wished for a King. The students used this story to write a series of composition sentences. They also found new words to sound out and then spell. Toward the end of the week, the class had the opportunity to meet an African-clawed frog named Egg. Everyone learned that this frog breathes through its lungs but is fully aquatic, similar to a dolphin. The class also learned that these frogs enjoy eating everything in sight, pretty much anything they can fit in their mouth.

This week, the class will be wrapping up their Play Block. The Second Grade will be performing their play for the school and their families. Additionally, the class will hear a story about a snail’s journey to find the most beautiful garden. This is the story that will be used for composition sentences and to guide our artistic work. The students will use their crayons to draw the snail and will use paint to create a picture of the snail in the beautiful garden.

It was great seeing so many familiar faces at Friday's auction, and it was great talking to each other. We are now excitedly looking forward to sharing the results of the class’s hard work on the play, and we cannot wait to have you here again. When you come for the performance, please bring something to sit on and bring bug spray.

Please help your child practice their play lines at home.
Please send your child ready for full creekcess on Fridays with a change of clothes, hard-bottomed, closed-toed shoes, and a towel.
Please send two full water bottles to school daily; students feel the warmer temperatures and drink a lot of water!
