Dear Honeybee Families,
We had an exciting week in the Honeybees class. The children have noticed the leaves starting to change in our outdoor classroom. They frequently bring leaves that have fallen to each other to examine the many colors. We also enjoyed painting in our indoor classroom. We are working with red and blue paint and learning to use small sponges to absorb excess water. We practice cleaning our brushes between colors, which allows us to keep the colors from becoming “muddied” in the jars of paint and adds more detail to our paintings. The children are becoming more accustomed to our daily rhythms and settling into school routines. They are learning the words and motions of our songs and participating in them more eagerly. They especially seem to enjoy our clean-up song:
Tick-tock goes the clock
What does it have to say
It's time for us to pick up our toys
And put them all away
Looking ahead to next week, we will visit the farm. This will be a fun opportunity for the children to meet the animals and see where they live. We will also go on a nature walk. This will give them a chance to gather treasures from nature to decorate their handwork bags, which we also hope to begin using next week. We will also continue to enjoy our shared snacks. The children have enjoyed doing the practical work of cutting the vegetables that will contribute to our shared soup on Wednesdays. We are planning to do our drawing activity in our outside classroom in hopes that the serene setting gives them lovely inspiration from the beauty that surrounds us.
Announcements and Reminders for Honeybee Kindergarten:
Please send your child with a long-sleeve shirt; the mornings are starting to have a much welcomed chill in the air.
Our class’ Community Workday will be October 12th from 9:00am-12:00pm. Together, we will be working towards the beautification of our school and to ready campus for our amazing Kingdom of Halloween festival!
Please remember that all Joyful Beginnings and Kindergarten classes are nut- free this year. This is to keep all of our students safe. Please do not send nuts or things made from nuts (this includes most granola bars, nut milks, and nut butters). Sun butter (made from sunflower seeds) or Wow butter (made from soy) are helpful substitutes. Thank you for your help protecting our students from serious allergens.
Please save the date for our Curriculum Night on September 3rd (adults only, please). We will gather together to engage in an interactive activity, share a light snack, and learn about different types of play and the purposes they serve for children.
Warmly,
Ki Peden
