Dear Honeybee Families,
We had a fun week in the Honeybees class. On Monday, we went to the creek and enjoyed exploring the beach and water. Because we had picture day on Wednesday, we ended up moving the watercolor painting to Thursday. We also enjoyed playing in the field by the farm on Thursday with the other two kindergarten classes. The children have been working on projects in their craft bags. Many made necklaces and bracelets over the week. A few have taken to finger knitting and seem to really enjoy that. We also added a new verse and moves to one of our songs:
Here is the beehive
Where are the bees?
Hidden inside where nobody sees
Look and you'll see them come out of the hive
1,2,3,4,5 they're alive!
This week, we are starting a story about a dragon who goes to a village and makes friends with the children by giving them rides on his back. Initially, the villagers are afraid of the dragon, but a brave girl is able to make friends with him and show the village that he is kind. We are telling this story as a way to celebrate inner courage. We will be using the yellow watercolor painting we made last week to make stars and tie them with ribbons to wooden rings. Please continue to send in yellow flowers so we can use them to dye our cloths on Wednesday. We will also be making cards for veterans this week.
Announcements and Reminders for Honeybee Kindergarten:
Feel free to send a supplemental, nutritious snack for your child to enjoy with our shared snack.
We will be using natural dyes to color cloth later this week. To do this, we need specific flowers that make a beautiful golden color when boiled. If you have marigold flowers you could share with us, we would be grateful to have them (just the flower head, please). Also, if you can harvest any goldenrod, a yellow wildflower often found growing freely along the road or trails, we would appreciate that, too.
Our Fall Break is September 23 - 27, and we have teacher in-service on September 30th. We look forward to seeing everyone again on October 1st!
Fall Conferences are on October 10th and 11th and will be held at school. Please sign up here.
Warmly,
Ki Peden
