Kindergarten Turtles: September 9 - 13, 2024

Greetings, Turtle Families,

Our story, connected with our Day of Courage celebration, was about a brave child and a hungry, very lonely dragon collecting cloudberries. The dragon was afraid of people, and the people were afraid of dragons. As the story went on, the dragon found himself face-to-face with a child. They were both scared; the child's voice shook and the dragon tried to hide his fear using his most gruff dragon voice. The child and the Dragon called upon their inner courage and were able to help each other in the process. The dragon helped the family light a fire on their stove to cook their food. Then the family invited the dragon to stay and eat pancakes with them, and the dragon shared his cloudberries to make a delicious syrup. In the end, the dragon and the child had a nice fire, delicious food, and a new friendship.  This week, we will have a puppet show of the story, and the children will perform a play.  On our last (1/2) day of school before break, we will have a surprise, story-related treat for a snack.

This week promises to be full of crafts and handwork. Thank you for the harvest of goldenrod and marigolds! We will prepare the flowers for dye and then will use the dye Ki Ieva makes from our flowers to color wool yarn and cotton cloths.  We will also create some fun Day of Courage crafts using our watercolor paintings and ribbon.  Also, this week, we will finish our Back-to-School Circle.  When we return from the break, we will have a new Autumn Circle. Throughout the year, our circle will follow the rhythm of the seasons and will change approximately every six weeks.

Announcements and Reminders:

  • We will send rest mats home for washing over the break.

  • Next week is FALL BREAK!  There is no school for students the following Monday, 9/30, due to teacher in-service.

  • Please sign up for a conference time HERE.  Conferences will be held at school on October 10th and 11th.

Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being a part of our community.

Grace and Peace,

Ki Kim
