Hello, Second and Third Grade Families,
A warm welcome back from break and a happy beginning of fall to all of you. The children are certainly happy to be back with their friends again!
Before the break, we concluded our first Reading Block with a review of the spelling patterns we were learning. To accompany our story of Saint George, the children baked dragon bread. They spent their Extra Main Lesson time mixing, kneading, and shaping the dough into their own dragon. As each dragon came out of the oven, or the “cave,” as the children called it, each seemed to come alive; some long with scales, some with friendly smiles, and some breathing fire. On Friday, our Day of Courage, the children enjoyed presenting their recitation and movement exercises to the other grades, and they were excited to play games hosted by high schoolers from Academe of the Oaks.
This week, we will begin our next Math Block, which will cover place value and continue to review multiplication and division. This block will be accompanied by a story about neighbors who start a cookie business and need to find a way to sort their products for delivery. We will occasionally bake batches of healthy treats to accompany this block on Thursdays, so be on the lookout for notifications of baking needs.
Announcements and Reminders for Fourth & Fifth Grade:
Please send in two full water bottles daily. The children get very warm with all the movement they do in addition to recess.
Layers, layers, layers! They will continue to keep your child comfortable whatever the weather/temperature range of the day.
