First Grade: October 6 - 10, 2025

Dear First Grade Families,

Thank you for attending parent conferences last week! The link to home is so valuable. We are stronger together!

The class has concluded their first Math block. Students improved their basic numeracy skills in addition to learning to decode (read) and encode (write) the numerals 1-10. Each number was depicted artistically in students’ Main Lesson Books. Encoding “8” can be tricky for students to master! Students enjoyed its beauty while learning to form its curves and important central intersection without lifting their pencils. To deepen their grasp of the form, the class practiced it in landscape format (essentially creating the infinity symbol) during Form Drawing. Another way they digested the shape was by drawing a spider in crayon (with its eight legs, of course!) as a figure eight before painting over it with watercolors. The lesson wove Math and Art together with a dash of Science via students observing the wax resist process.

This week, the class will be immersed in Language Arts again through lessons on consonants. Students will improve their phonemic awareness and hear new stories to help cement the images of the letters in their imaginations.
