Kindergarten Turtles: August 25-29, 2025
Greetings, Turtle Families,
Thank you for joining us for our first Curriculum Night. It was wonderful to see so many parents and share with you about your child and our class. Your time and support are very much appreciated!
Our Handwork bags are complete, and they are beautiful! Each bag is personalized with the child’s name and their nature treasures. These bags will hold handwork projects throughout the year, helping students keep track of their own supplies and continue working on their creations over time. Several students have sewing projects in progress, and we began finger-chaining this week. Students will bring their creations home as they complete them. Handwork activities are beneficial for fine motor development, but their value goes far beyond that. Through handwork, children learn to problem-solve, follow multi-step processes, and build stamina and focus. When the children work on a handwork project, they are making something useful and beautiful that provides a sense of tangible accomplishment. As they bring home their projects, please take a moment to appreciate the time, love, and effort they have invested.
In addition to our handwork, we’ve begun our storytelling rhythm for the year. Each story will unfold over two weeks. During the first week, we gather in a circle, before snack each day, to listen to the story as it is told orally. In the second week, the same story will be presented in a variety of ways. Over the past two weeks, we shared a beautiful story about Mother Nature, two playful Bluebirds, and all of the colors of the rainbow. The children sat with rapt attention during the puppet show, where the story was presented using handmade puppets, silks, and props. Later, we explored the story using sequencing cards illustrated in watercolor. The children colored and cut out their own set of cards to take home, offering a great opportunity to retell the story and share it with you. Students performed a play of the story, each child accepted their role and played out the story as it was narrated. It was so special to watch each of them bring their personality and ideas to the performance. Our class is becoming a beautiful, supportive community as they work and play together. Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being a part of our community.
Thank you to Tea’s family for providing the fruit for our shared snacks this week! If you have not signed up to provide fruit for our snack, please visit the Sign-up page.
