First Grade: August 25-29, 2025

Dear First Grade Families,

Our class was not the same this week due to low attendance; friends were very much missed! However, six- to seven-year-olds live largely in the moment and therefore tend to be beautifully swept into the mood of each activity, soon becoming immersed in their work and play.

Students have embraced the shapes of mountains and valleys thus far in our Language Arts block. The letters “M” and “V,” along with zigzag lines in Form Drawing, have seen students walking these forms (up and down!), drawing in the air,  tracing in sand, writing in crayon, and finally practicing with a pencil. Each child has put in impressive effort, taking great pride in perfecting the formation of the letters under study. Fun associated movement activities have included acting out words beginning with “V” (volcano, van, village, vacuum) and our third letter under study, “D” (duck, doughnut, dog, dig). During an XML, the class went for a nature walk to observe flora and fauna. Since we were simply going where the wind took us, we quite unintentionally ended up in a D-shaped land peninsula by the parking lot on the very day we had been practicing that letter. The students enjoyed the expansive experience of walking the shape of the letter they had just been working on in a more focused manner in the classroom. Part of the joy of the dynamic environment of our school is when students experience tiny serendipitous moments like these.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you tomorrow at Curriculum Night! Please join us at 6:00 pm in our indoor classroom. Thank you to the parents who are bringing refreshments. Also, thank you to Mitchell Kramb for donating an air purifier, which is now installed in the Music/Mandarin room.
