Fourth & Fifth Grade: September 29 - October 3, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
This week, the class wrapped up the Wonder of Number Main Lesson block. We spent time reviewing prime, square, and triangular numbers. The students also had the opportunity to share their story summaries that were written over fall break.
We explored additional divisibility hacks for long division, specifically the “casting out nines” rule, and learned how to use long division to find perfect numbers. As a class, we worked together to identify the second and third perfect numbers: 28 and 496. Ask your child if they remember what those numbers were and if they can show you how to find them using division!
Since this content was taught through the story entitled A Tale of Two Kings, the class collaborated on a reenactment. Each child chose a role to play from the story. This activity was a fun and engaging way for students to demonstrate what they learned in September while also practicing their dramatization skills.
Next week, we’ll begin our third block: Botany I. We'll be exploring the school campus to observe how plants change during the autumn season and start our first seed-sprouting experiment. If you have any extra fruit seeds from food at home, feel free to wash and send them in with your child. We’d be happy to include them in our experiments!
Announcements & Reminders:
We’re beginning preparations for the Greek Pentathlon. Please ensure your child wears or brings shoes suitable for athletic activities such as running and jumping. (Leaving a pair at school is also an option.) Also, make sure they dress in layers, as morning and afternoon temperatures vary greatly this season.
School Pictures will be on Thursday, October 9th. These will be individual photos only. In the Spring, we will take the class picture and any makeup photos.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week, October 9 and 10th. Thank you, everyone, for signing up!
The class will participate in a pumpkin carving activity on Friday, October 17th, to create a fairy house display for the October 18th Kingdom of Halloween event. Please send a pumpkin with your child during the week of October 13th. If you would like me to pick one up for your child, let me know.
The wonderful and highly anticipated Kingdom of Halloween is coming soon, on October 18th! We still have spots open for volunteers at our class booth. The Fourth/Fifth Grade class is hosting the leather bracelets this year. Please sign up if you are able. Thank you to those who have already signed up to volunteer!
