Kindergarten Honeybees: November 17 - 21, 2025
Dear Honeybee Families,
We had a wonderful week in the Honeybee forest. Our classroom was visited by many curious birds, some swooping through the platform several times, others pausing to rest near us as we ate our lunch. Their presence reminded us that our classroom is a living, breathing environment, one we share with many friends of the natural world.
Last week, the children explored origami. Creating chickens and rabbits were the favorites, although a penguin and a silly gnome also appeared. As the children practiced aligning edges and folding the paper firmly, they worked on fine-motor development, perseverance, and the quiet joy of transforming a simple material through their own effort. Sometimes we needed to start again, and this too is part of the learning: meeting a small challenge with patience. Much laughter accompanied our folding, and the class took great delight in seeing their creations emerge. We also brought our story, The Most Beautiful Thing in the World, to life through a puppet show and an imaginative class play. The children joyfully stepped into their role, dressed in silks, and moved through the gestures of the tale, developing their own inner pictures, empathy, and the capacity to enter into another’s perspective. Several students insisted that their handmade mice join the marketplace scene, which fit beautifully and added a touch of humor and creativity.
The class enjoyed warm baked apples with butter and cinnamon, an autumn treat that nourishes the senses as well as the body. In Waldorf education, shared meals and comforting seasonal foods help children feel rooted in the rhythms of the year. The aroma alone filled our space with warmth and anticipation for our delicious treat. In the forest, the children collected colorful fallen leaves. We used these treasures to create our Thankful Turkeys, tracing the children’s hands and arranging the leaves to form bright, feathered tails. Listening to what each child is grateful for was truly heartwarming; nurturing gratitude is one of the quiet aims of our work with young children.
Thank you for joining us at our Thanksgiving luncheon. It was such a gift to gather together in our forest, share a meal, and enjoy the beauty of community. Moments like these strengthen the sense of belonging that is so essential in early childhood. We hope you all enjoyed a warm and nourishing Thanksgiving break surrounded by loved ones. We are happy to have welcomed your little Honeybees back after the holiday.
