Kindergarten Honeybees: August 11 - August 15, 2025

Dear Honeybee Families,

Thank you for joining us in our lovely Honeybee forest classroom at the Meet and Greet. It was a delight to see all of the families and children together.

Our much-anticipated first (half) week of school finally arrived. The children seamlessly joined the class and are beginning to familiarize themselves with each other, our daily rhythm, and our forest space. We’ve already witnessed some wondrous things in our neck of the woods, including a furry caterpillar climbing up its almost invisible silk thread, migratory butterflies visiting our flowers, various mushrooms (with speculation that fairies live beneath), and skinks! It is such a gift and treasure to see the careful observations and curiosities of the children. Our Honeybees have been exploring the nooks in our forest space and learning our forest boundaries. The mud kitchen is already a busy place, buzzing with activity and mud pies and mud muffins. On the platform, many of the children have enjoyed playing and caring for our stuffed animals and acting out imaginative roles at the doll house. Students worked together to create a little fairy neighborhood. They also shoveled little stones from our gravel piles into the wheelbarrow and transported the stones to place under our firepit. Our class is already showing great displays of harmonious group activity. While some students were (understandably) more reserved on their first day, by our second day of school, friendships were already beginning to blossom.

This week, we have introduced our structured activities. Our weekly activity rhythm is as follows: Monday- handwork, Tuesday- watercolor painting, Wednesday- creek or farm, Thursday- drawing, Friday- creek or farm. We will use our indoor space for watercolor painting. Watercolor painting is a central creative activity emphasized in the Waldorf curriculum. It offers the children a gentle and imaginative entry into the world of color, without the pressure of staying within lines or replicating a specific form. We introduce painting simply with one color, and work our way towards more as the school year progresses, allowing the children to observe how they interact, blend, and transform- just as we will over the course of our Honeybee year!

Thank you for preparing your children for successful days at school. We understand there were a lot of items to pack and appreciate that all the children had everything they needed (with their names-hooray!).
