Second & Third Grade: August 11 - August 15, 2025
Dear Second and Third Grade Families,
Welcome back!
It was wonderful seeing so many of you at our Meet and Greet! Thank you also to all of the families who assisted in setting up the Rose Ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful, and it set a lovely tone for the beginning of our school year.
We dove into our first Main Lesson block, which focuses on the history of farming. The class learned that farms originated over 12,000 years ago, allowing humans to shift from a nomadic to a sedentary lifestyle. Lessons included farming tools and the different types of farms around the world, such as rice farms, fish farms, flower farms, and coffee farms. In addition, time was spent learning and reviewing spelling patterns with a focus on controlled r spelling patterns (-ar, -or, -ur, -er, and -ir). This spelling pattern helps students learn and review spelling words such as farm, barn, garden, cart, and harvest while renewing their sentence writing skills.
The class also had their first farming, music, Mandarin, Spanish, and handwork lessons. The children are enjoying all of their specialty classes, but they were especially excited to spend time learning their chores at the farm with Ki Heidi. On Friday, the children were thrilled to spend their first Friday afternoon enjoying creekcess, and they had a special celebration for our first birthday of the year. Happy eighth birthday to Jay!
This week, we will continue learning about life on the farm by studying the farming year, arable farms, livestock farms, subsistence farms, and flower farms. We will also continue practicing our spelling patterns with the addition of the long vowel spelling patterns.
