Fourth & Fifth Grade: August 11 - August 15, 2025
Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,
It was a pleasure meeting you all at the Meet & Greet and on the first day of school! We have a very adventure-filled year planned ahead. The class will begin the year with North American Geography I, as their first Main Lesson block. As a way to introduce the topic, the students received letters from other Waldorf teachers in the United States and Canada. Each letter was a vivid explanation of the physical geography of each teacher's respective place of residence. After the students read the letter they chose, they had the opportunity to share with the class what they learned about the place and identify where it is located on the North American continent. It was a nice way for the students to transition into learning mode after having a summer season that consisted of traveling to places near and far.
In the upcoming week, the class will dive deep into learning the physical geography of the United States and the story behind North America’s original name: Turtle Island. One way to support your child’s growth in this topic at home is to take a look at a map of the United States via the globe, a road map, or an atlas. Talk about places you traveled with your child, and see if they can identify unique geographical features, fun facts about the states, regions, or cities.
Announcements & Reminders:
Since it has been quite wet and rainy lately, please remember to send bug spray with your child daily. Every Friday, barring rain, chilly temperatures, and/or inclement weather, the students will have creekcess. Please remember to send water-friendly close-toed shoes, a change of clothes, and a towel with your child so they can safely and comfortably enjoy the creek.
