Middle School: August 11 - August 15, 2025

Hello, Middle School Families,

It was such a pleasure to be back on campus together, to welcome a new student and the rising 6th graders into the fold of Middle School, as well as greet the returning students. Thank you to those who attended the new Saturday Meet & Greet! It was lovely to see you!

The Middle Schoolers set a high standard for the start of the school year with their participation in the Rose Ceremony. They helped the rising kindergarten students cross the bridge to First Grade. It seems so full circle now to have a class of 8th Graders who can remember doing that same bridge crossing all those years ago.

The first block of the school year is Physics and Meteorology. The Physics topics that will be covered this year tie in nicely with the Meteorology block, so it will be a slightly longer block incorporating both themes. The first few days had the class diving into activities exploring pressure. The class has a fun time trying to see how many 3-oz Dixie cups it would take to hold up a teacher! It took many trials (and lots of crushed cups), but they figured it out. PSI was related to bike tire pressure, and our class bike expert took on the job of illustrating riding a flat tire bike vs. a bike with the correct PSI. The experience that all have had with trying to ride a bike with flat tires was proven with a timed trial - almost a second faster to go 30 meters.

The class also explored water pressure with various demonstrations, coming to the conclusion that the pressure a liquid exerts increases with depth. We used a DIY manometer to measure the pressure of a liquid and to observe the changes in water pressure in a bucket of water at various depths.

And finally, the class got all their new supplies - a decidedly favorite part of starting the school year. They have several new supplies they were thrilled about - the favorite being a new set of colored pencils and colored pens for their Main Lesson books.

Looking forward to a wonderful year!
