Kindergarten Chickadees: February 3 - 7, 2025

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you, everyone, for attending conferences last week. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet with each of you and discuss your amazing children and their school experiences so far this year.

The Chickadees were amazed by the Lunar New Year performance the Grades students put on last week. The puppet show and fan dance were popular discussion topics during dismissal on Thursday. The Chickadees will continue celebrating the Lunar New Year this week. Throughout the week, students will sew a pet snake to take home in recognition of the year of the snake. The children will enjoy dumpling soup for snack on Wednesday and tangerines for snack on Thursday. You do not need to send a vegetable or fruit this week. Both dumplings and tangerines symbolize good fortune and prosperity for the new year. Please let me know if your child should not have the dumpling soup, and be sure to pack them a larger snack from home on that day. This week, the class will also perform the play of our most recent story, The White Snake. Each day, we will perform the story in our classroom, with different students playing different roles daily. Your child may be excited to share with you what happened to the servant who ate the snake!

Last week, the children enjoyed warm, sunny weather. After making dressing dolls and drawings, the students engaged in various playground games. Some popular games this week were familiar games the students had learned earlier in the year, such as Red Light, Green Light, and Mother May I. The students created other games with unique rules, like the Dorito game. Both types of games brought much joy and laughter to the forest. The Chickadees also enjoyed testing their physicality through feats like jumping from rock to rock at the farm, rolling down a hill, and jumping and spinning in the air. These games and physical activities will be a fantastic segway into our spring circle, which will begin after the mid-winter break and include animals that make various small and large movements and a game that requires quick reflexes and attentive listening skills. These physical elements in play are beneficial in multiple ways, including providing positive social growth, increasing physical health, developing problem-solving skills, and enhancing a child’s overall sense of well-being.

We hope you all enjoy the Mid-Winter break!

Announcements and Reminders for Chickadee Kindergarten:

Rest mats will be sent home this week for the break. Please wash them and return them on the Tuesday following break when your child returns to school.

Valentine’s Day: As has been our tradition at The Garden School, please save any student card/gift exchanges for play dates off campus. Instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day at school, we will have a special craft and snacks to honor the Lunar New Year.
