Sixth & Seventh Grade: January 21 - 24, 2025

Hello, Middle School Families,

This past week, our Sixth and Seventh Graders continued developing their perspective drawing skills. They started by creating a chessboard with game pieces in one-point perspective, then moved on to drawing a small village, aligning building windows and placing structures in relation to one another. Following these experiences, the class then tackled cityscapes with skyscrapers in two-point perspective, which helped give their drawings a more three-dimensional feel. By showing both sides of buildings receding into the distance, they conveyed a better sense of depth and scale than with a one-point perspective.

Although this block officially ended today, the students will finish by creating a piece using a three-point perspective in their Fine Arts lesson, adding even more complexity and realism to their work. This technique is perfect for dramatic views, such as looking up at tall buildings or down from high points, and adds depth and scale to large structures.

The students have willingly embraced these challenges and have shown impressive growth in their skills over the past few weeks. We look forward to seeing how they continue to explore and enjoy the world of perspective drawing!
