Kindergarten Chickadees: April 21-25, 2025

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you for attending our fifth annual Hope Blooms auction! It was wonderful to see many families in attendance; we are thankful for the support of our incredible school community.

The students are working hard on finishing projects as the semester begins to wind down. Snake projects have been going home as they are completed, and will continue to be sent home over the next few weeks. The children will soon create covers for their painting and drawing books, and these books will go home in a couple of weeks. Golden Knights students are also working on some big projects, and they are excited to complete these impressive pieces to bring home at the end of the semester. Last week, students planted kale, parsley, marigolds, and zinnias in planters for the class to care for and watch grow. This week, they will plant some seeds to take home! Please keep the seed starter planters in a sunny spot and keep the soil moist. Once the sprouts reach a couple of inches in height, they can be planted in the ground or a larger planter.

The current Chickadee circle features songs and verses about the animals in our forest, including various types of birds and squirrels. The students have watched for these animals in the forest classroom and have spotted all of them. They have also seen bunnies hopping through the brush or along the path, as well as a pair of Barred Owls in the pine forest and a pair of Cooper’s Hawks in a nest next to the platform. Last Wednesday afternoon, the children were treated to the sight of a Carolina Wren bringing moss, leaves, and other items as it attempted to build a nest in Ki Holly’s backpack! One of the students’ favorite songs from the current circle is included below; they love singing along while making the corresponding hand movements.

Robin red breast,

Crow flying ‘round,

Nuthatch hopping down the tree,

Chick-a-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee

Caw, caw, caw, caw

Chick-a-dee-dee-dee

Chick-a-dee-dee-dee

Chickd-a-dee-dee-dee

Chick-a-dee-dee-dee
