First Grade: April 21-25, 2025
Dear First Grade Families,
It was wonderful seeing you at the Annual Auction! Thank you for coming and supporting our school, whether by attending, helping with setup and cleanup, or helping with the class project. Special thanks to Kathrine, whose talents and dedication enabled us to realize our vision of a beautiful seasonal table set for the class auction project. You are a force, Kathrine! Thank you to Marshall for making the solid wood base to pull the whole project together. Many thanks also to Brenda, Dulce, Kailey, Katie, Petia, and Zuri for assisting students during Handwork. We also thank Zuri and Joey for donating the perfect stones. Finally, we send a big thank you to Ki Ieva, who shared her resources and know-how so generously and graciously. It was an amazing team effort!
Rehearsals for “The Three Bears” have begun during Main Lesson! The children love this story and are already beginning to live into it, even playing it out during free time. Although a few students spoke very quietly at the beginning, they have come to embrace their lines and songs, taking real ownership of them and speaking/singing with feeling. The humorous moments are particularly appreciated, and all the students are exploring ways of interpreting the script with their own unique gestures and expressions. In tandem with rehearsing the play, the class is making their own “The Three Bears” reader. Some students wanted to play it safe by leaving birds out of a drawing of a sunrise with tree branches in the foreground, but this reluctance was quickly overcome. It is wonderful when they take risks and push themselves!
