Kindergarten Turtles: May 12-16, 2025

Greetings, Turtle Families,

Thank you to the whole parent community for showering the teachers and staff with love last week.  Everything you all provided for us was so beautiful, and we certainly felt loved and appreciated!

Last week, the children worked on a special project, creating a wood and string art piece. First, they each sanded a wooden heart to smooth the rough edges.   Next, they hammered nails into the wood.  They chose the number of nails and where to place them.  Each child took time and care to hammer each nail, spacing them, straightening them as they started to bend, making sure they were secure before moving on to the next nail.  This was a one-on-one activity with the teacher to ensure safety; however, the children completed it independently.  After all the nails had been hammered in, the students chose from a selection of beautiful yarns (donated to our class by the Atkinson Family) and wrapped the yarn around the nails. Each heart was unique and beautiful, and the students were so proud and excited to bring them home to share with their families.

Announcements and Reminders:

It is hard to believe that the school year is ending. We have some special activities planned for next week, the last week of school.

  • During the final week of school, we will NOT have our usual shared snack (no fruit needed). Please be sure to send your child with a snack each day this last week of school.

  • Students will need creek shoes and a change of clothes every day, as we will play at the creek as often as possible.

  • Please send two full water bottles to school daily; students feel the warmer temperatures and drink a lot of water!

  • Monday, 5/19, students can bring a favorite book from home. We cannot get through 13 books in one day, so we will read these books over the course of the week.  When they bring their book on Monday, we will put a special bookmark, with the student's name on it, in the book.  As we read the books, we will send them home.  Also, on Monday, we will chop Strawberries to be used in our Sorbet later in the week. Please see the email from Crystal to sign up to donate strawberries.

  • Tuesday, 5/20, students are invited to bring a favorite stuffed animal from home. Stuffed animals should easily fit in backpacks and be OK to get dirty. We will share Strawberry Sorbet along with our snack from home. Sorbet ingredients will be strawberries (donated by class parents), agave syrup, and filtered water.

  • Wednesday, 5/21, is FIELD DAY!  On field day, we will participate in outdoor games and activities as a class, visit the creek, and enjoy Outshine popsicles provided by the school. If you would prefer your child to enjoy a small snack from home instead, please let me know before field day. Kindergarten will be dismissed at half day today.

  • Thursday, 5/22, we will have a Treasure hunt throughout the forest.

  • Friday, 5/23, is a picnic and a joke day.  We will enjoy our snack and lunch as a picnic in a new location in the forest.  Students are invited to bring a joke to tell from home (I will have a bag of jokes to pick from if you forget or don’t bring one from home).

  • 5/21: Field Day / Half Day for Kindergarten

  • 5/23: Last Day of School - Full Day

We are looking forward to a week of special activities before we say goodbye for the summer. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being a part of our community.

Grace and Peace,

Ki Kim
