Kindergarten Honeybees: May 12-16, 2025

Dear Honeybee Families,

Thank you to everyone for making Teacher Appreciation Week feel so special. It has been a privilege to not only teach your children but also get to know you all as well.

Last week, we went to the farm on Monday. It was fun to spend some time in the direct sun, warm up, and see our friends at the farm whom we hadn't seen in a few weeks. The children also found an egg in the chicken coop. They were so excited to see it; they asked to look at it multiple times. On Tuesday, we went to the creek. Despite the cooler weather, the students enjoyed running and splashing in the water. On Wednesday, the children made cards for a special person in their lives. It was fun to hear about someone the children loved and to have them spend time and energy making something for that person. On Friday, we went to the dress rehearsal for the First Grade play, Three Little Bears. The students really enjoyed it, and it was a fun way to support other students at The Garden School.

This week, we are hoping for good weather so we can have as many days as possible at the creek as our school year comes to an end. Wednesday is our last day of Golden Knights. We will have a small ceremony for the children who are moving to First Grade next year. We will also celebrate our last student's birthday this week. We will be turning our story about the rabbits of Cottontail Village and the coyote into a puppet show and play.

Announcements & Reminders for the Honeybees:

  • Preparedness: Please send your child to school with:

    • A change of clothes, especially on creek days (Mondays and Thursdays).

    • Wearing layers is still helpful, too!

    • Two full water bottles daily

  • Monday, 5/19, students can bring a favorite book from home. We cannot get through 11 books in one day, so we will read these books over the course of the week.  When they bring their book on Monday, we will put a special bookmark, with the student's name on it, in the book.  As we read the books, we will send them home.

  • Tuesday, 5/20, students are invited to bring a favorite stuffed animal from home. Stuffed animals should easily fit in backpacks and be OK to get dirty.

  • Wednesday, 5/21, is FIELD DAY!  On field day, we will participate in outdoor games and activities as a class, visit the creek, and enjoy Outshine popsicles provided by the school. If you would prefer your child to enjoy a small snack from home instead, please let me know before field day. Kindergarten will be dismissed at half day today.

  • Thursday, 5/22, we will wear silly socks and PJs.

  • Friday, 5/23, is Teacher For An Hour Day. Because we have such a small class, the students will take turns being the teacher for an hour. Students will have a list of activities from which they can choose. Some examples are going to the farm, playground, or playing a game like London Bridge.

  • 5/21: Field Day / Half Day for Kindergarten

  • 5/23: Last Day of School - Full Day

Wishing you all a joyful week ahead!

With warmth and gratitude,

Ki Peden
