First Grade: May 12-16, 2025
Dear First Grade Families,
Thank you for being part of our Class Play! The class could not have had a more supportive, appreciative audience. In preparing for the grand event, students rose to the challenge of learning their lines, staying in character, and conquering their nerves over performing. Their creativity and resilience shone, as did their supportiveness for each other. Well done, First Grade, on an unforgettable performance!
We also extend gratitude to families for their support in putting together costumes for the children, working on lines at home, helping with makeup on the night of the performance, and donating food and party supplies. The bears, birds, and Goldilocks looked perfect, and the party was, as Goldilocks would say, just right!
Last week, the school faculty and staff were treated to a bounty of scrumptious food, a variety of beautiful gifts, and the sweetest homemade cards from students. It was all so thoughtfully done, and everyone felt so loved! Thank you so much!
The mood in school the last few weeks has been one of outward expansion, in keeping with the season and the latter part of the school year. During free time, students have been found running at full pelt, pulling their hardest to hoist their classmates as high as possible on the forest swing, and singing more heartily than ever! Games form part of everyday play and sometimes feature in morning Circle. In the chasing game “Orchard,” students have to listen carefully for their fruit being called, skip nimbly over their classmates’ outstretched legs, and move quickly to catch the classmate ahead of them while avoiding being caught from behind! Through such games, the children have the opportunity for an out-breath while at the same time building valuable skills, including spatial awareness and social skills.
On Friday, we celebrated Melanie's birthday with a delicious homemade treat and big smiles all around. Happy birthday, Melanie!
For the remaining time that the class has together, we will complete our reader, “The Three Bears,” play review games, and enjoy our Main Lesson Book review. The students are very excited about bringing the books home to keep! Field Day is on the horizon, too!
