Fourth & Fifth Grade: April 13 - 17, 2026

Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,

After returning to school from Spring Break, the class began Part Two of our Ancient Greek studies. Having built a general understanding of the history, culture, and significant events such as the Olympic Games, we are now shifting our focus to the rich mythological stories that were born from this era. Students also continued with their preparations for next month’s play, which is connected to this theme.

The Main Lesson began with learning about Gaia, also known as “Mother Nature,” and how the world was created from Chaos, or the void. Next, we explored the Olympian family tree to see how many of the students’ favorite gods, goddesses, and Titans are connected. Each student has selected a figure from the Greek pantheon for an individual project and has begun initial research by reading excerpts from Treasury of Greek Mythology: Classic Stories of Gods, Goddesses, Heroes & Monsters. Over the next week, students will continue developing their summary writing and oral presentation skills as they prepare to share their learning with the class.

As we move through this lesson block, students will explore a variety of classic Greek myths, focusing on identifying main ideas, key details, and the important life lessons found within these stories. With the 2026 Southeastern Waldorf Pentathlon on the horizon, this focus on Greek mythology will serve as a meaningful refresher and help build excitement for the Games.

We also celebrated two students who had birthdays over Spring Break. Happy belated birthday to Layla and Sammy!
