Middle School: April 13 - 17, 2026

Hello, Middle School Families,

Now that we are on the other side of Spring Break, the end of the school year seems to be rapidly approaching. This week in the History II block, the class learned about the major causes that led to the outbreak of WWII. Additionally, they learned about the biography of Anne Frank and her family’s 761 days hiding in the Annex. Students read various excerpts from her diary, and to their delight, recognized that teenagers from the 1940s often had similar internal thoughts to those of today. The class learned about the lived experience of World War II through the eyes of a girl their own age, and what her words reveal about courage, hope, and the endurance of the human spirit.

The class has also begun play practice in earnest, blocking the different scenes and starting to learn their lines. It is quite a funny play, and they are enjoying the banter between the different characters on stage.

Over the course of the next few weeks, your child may be coming home mentioning that there was an observing or guest teacher in their Middle School class. This is all part of our Garden School hiring process. The steps are as follows: applicants begin by touring the school and meeting with members of our Colleagueship Committee. They then spend a morning observing in one or two classrooms to gain a deeper sense of the daily rhythms. Finally, candidates return to present a lesson to a class, while being observed by members of the committee. Throughout the process, applicants are in regular communication with both the class teacher and the administration. Our process for hiring teachers is thoughtful and intentional, and we are excited to welcome all of the prospective teachers into our classroom!

Finally, the class also worked steadily on our Auction Project and it is coming along beautifully! They are really proud of the final product. I look forward to seeing you all at the auction this coming Friday night!
