Joyful Beginnings Hummingbirds: February 24 - 28, 2025
Dear Joyful Beginnings Hummingbird Families,
The weather has been lovely, with cool mornings that quickly warmed up. We head to our ‘Hummingbird Nest’ a little after drop-off, and by the time we return to our ‘Hummingbird House,’ our layers have gradually come off.
We’re enjoying new circle time songs and verses about the arrival of spring, and the animals and little plants waking up to greet the ‘Wonderful Outside World.’ The children certainly seem ready for spring, with their energy buzzing and excitement growing! It was such fun to be greeted by our farm animal friends with cheerful brays and bleats as we made our way to the farm.
In the heart of a seed buried deep so deep,
A dear little plant lay fast asleep.
“Wake,” said the sun, “and creep to the light.”
“Wake,” said the voices of the raindrops bright.
The little plant heard, and it rose to see
What the wonderful outside world might be.
As a class, we worked all week on remembering to hold on to the ‘mousie ears’ while walking safely through the forest to and from our nest. There are many distractions along the way, but we are so proud of the children for staying on the path, using their 'strong and steady' feet to walk safely through the forest each day. It's no small feat – they are using their bodies to build strength, skill, coordination, and willpower.
The Hummingbirds are also proud of their progress with changing shoes, potty-time, washing hands, and peeling off their coats all by themselves, amongst other things. Thank you for your support and patience in giving the children the opportunity, understanding, and time to practice these skills at home. It helps foster their independence and build their confidence, just as we continue to do the same in the classroom.
On another note, pillow and blanket decorations are well underway with the Bluebirds, while the Hummingbirds have already started working on their peg dolls for the auction project. We are excited to have a beautiful collection of paints, generously shared by a parent, that we will be using to dress the lovely peg dolls.
