Kindergarten Turtles: February 24 - 28, 2025

Greetings, Turtle Families,

It was a beautiful sunny week in the forest. We made a special gift for the birds of our forest using cut fruit and birdseed, an extension of our story from before the break.  We mixed red clay from our digging spot with water, to achieve the perfect muddy consistency. The children added layers of pine straw followed by layers of mud to small woven baskets, with each layer they took care to spread the mud thinly and then cover it well with pine straw. When the children had a nice bowl shape, they left the creations in the sun so they could dry. As they dried the mud shrank, and we could take our beautiful mud bowls out of the baskets. We found the perfect spots for our bowls at the edges of our play space. The children chopped apples and then added apples, oats, and birdseed to our handmade bowls for the animals to enjoy. It was fun to check on the bowls each morning, discover that they were empty, and then refill them.

We have introduced some beanbag games into class this week. One favorite is A-Tisket A-Tasket. These games have many benefits. They develop spatial awareness as the children learn to pay attention to their surroundings by focusing on where the bean bags are going or are coming from.  They develop their fine and gross motor skills by grasping and releasing the bean bags.  They gain confidence as they participate in games that challenge them and social skills as they work together.

I wrote a letter to my friend and on the way I dropped it

I dropped it, I dropped it, on the way I dropped it

A little kid picked it up and put it in their pocket.

On Friday, we celebrated Jonah’s 5th (half) birthday. His parents and grandparents visited our class and shared fun memories from each year of Jonah’s life. Classmates, teachers, and his parents shared a wish for the coming year. Happy (half) Birthday, Jonah!
