Kindergarten Chickadees: May 4 - 8, 2026

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the love and support you showed during Teacher Appreciation Week, just as you do throughout the school year. Working alongside you and with your blossoming children, with their beautiful spirits, is the best gift we could wish for, but the reminders of your care for the teachers and the school are always a ray of warmth.

Last week, the Chickadees worked hard in the forest using their cooperative skills to build a river with a waterfall/water slide, a bridge, and a boat. The students used various materials, including shovels, mud, water, wood, and bamboo. The Golden Knights students completed their scented beanbags and brought them home. This week, students will complete their drawing books, painting books, and nature journals, which will go home early next week. The children will also act out a play of the current class story, Bhambutia, a humorous adventure story about an older woman who tricks a lion, a tiger, and a bear by hiding in a bhambutia, a type of large clay pot. This story incorporates many repeated rhymes and sound effects, making it not only enjoyable but also easy to remember as the children repeat lines and movements of the characters.

Next week is the last week of the 2025-26 school year, and will consist of three full days, Monday through Wednesday. The class has a fun, busy week planned! On Monday, the students will hear a special story read by Ki Holly and have a watermelon snack. Tuesday is Field Day with Outshine popsicles for a snack. On Wednesday, as our class had the highest in-person attendance at the school auction (Hooray, Chickadee parents!), we won the Pizza Party with Ki Heidi and Ki Derek. The pizza party will be from 2:00 to 3:30 pm in the forest. Half-day families, please return at 2:00 to join in the fun! We will have strawberry lemonade with our snack on Wednesday. The Chickadees will visit the creek as often as the weather permits over the last two weeks of school. Next Monday, student work and projects will be sent home. On Wednesday, items such as indoor shoes, creek shoes, changes of clothing, and rest mats will go home.

Announcements & Reminders:

Please continue to send rain gear, a light jacket, and two water bottles to school daily. Please check your child’s backpack each day for clothes that need to be washed and replaced.
