Kindergarten Honeybees: May 4 - 8, 2026

Dear Honeybee Families,

We had a very full and busy bee week! It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of the school year. Thank you so much for the love and appreciation you showered upon the teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your kindness, thoughtful gestures, and generosity were deeply felt and sincerely appreciated. Most especially, the handmade cards and words from the children brought such joy and warmth to our hearts. They are treasures we will carry with us for a very long time.

The forest is alive and thriving! The children were delighted to discover a raised path of dirt winding toward our garden bed, and as the week progressed, we noticed more signs of a very busy mole visitor tunneling underground. There were also joyful squeals when the children spotted a tiny frog, almost perfectly camouflaged against the tree bark. Another exciting discovery was what appeared to be a bunny burrow. The children lovingly drew a picture of a sweet bunny on a chalkboard and placed it nearby to mark her little home.

This past week also brought special opportunities to glimpse the wonderful work happening throughout the Grades. We were invited to Ki Stephanie’s music class, where some of the Grade students performed a charming presentation of a story about cats accompanied by live instruments. The Honeybees listened with great delight and attention. We were also welcomed to Ki Michelle’s platform to watch the First Grade dress rehearsal of The Town Musicians of Bremen. The performance was truly lovely, and our class watched with deep focus and admiration.

We harvested our final garden salad of the school year together. The students helped snip fresh arugula, and we had quite the surprise when we pulled up our beets! Their large leafy tops had promised something grand beneath the soil, yet the beets themselves were barely the size of grapes. Alas, such are the humble lessons and joyful trial-and-error of gardening. Even so, all enjoyed the delicious greens together with tomatoes and Parmesan cheese, a simple and nourishing feast.

In preparation for Mother’s Day, the students spent several days creating heartfelt gifts. The class made cards, folded delicate origami tulips, and crafted bookmarks adorned with pressed flowers and glass beads. It is always deeply moving to witness the love and tenderness each child carries for their beloved mama. Thank you for all that you do each and every day. We hope you feel truly cherished and celebrated. The students further extended their Mother’s Day creations beyond our own classroom families by making cards and tulips for mothers living in senior care homes. It was a beautiful opportunity for the children to think of and honor the mothers beyond the reaches of their own homes, with the hope of bringing smiles, warmth, and remembrance to their hearts.

Announcements & Reminders:

It’s hard to believe next week is our final week of school! Our last day will be on Wednesday. A few important points for next week:

  • We will not have our usual shared snack, please send a snack with your child each day.

  • Students will need a change of clothes every day, as we will play at the creek as often as possible.

  • Special activities lined up for each day:

    •  Monday, 5/18, students are invited to bring a favorite stuffed animal from home. Stuffed animals should easily fit in backpacks and be OK to get dirty.

    • Tuesday, 5/19, is FIELD DAY! On field day, we will participate in outdoor games and activities as a class, visit the creek, and enjoy Outshine popsicles with our snack from home.

    • Wednesday, 5/20, we will have bring-a-book-from-home day, and we will share watermelon with our snack from home.

Thank you for continuing to equip your children with proper outdoor gear, including rain boots and rainwear, allowing them to fully participate in these rich outdoor experiences comfortably and joyfully. As some mornings are still quite chilly, please continue sending your child with warm layers so they may remain cozy throughout our changing spring days.
