Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,

Thank you for your contributions and gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week! Everyone at The Garden School truly appreciates your continued support from the community.

The class had another eventful week. After returning from the Southeastern Waldorf Pentathlon adventure, where they recreated the Ancient Greek Games, everything came full circle as we made the final preparations for the Ancient Greek-themed play, Demeter and Persephone. This myth teaches us about the origins of the agricultural cycle as Persephone, the goddess of vegetation, travels between the earth and the underworld.

Much of the week was spent designing the stage and building additional props in true student-led fashion. The backdrop of the set consisted of Greek pillars that represented everyone’s role in the play. Since the play featured various settings, the students also designed signs to help the audience better visualize and understand how each place moved the story forward. Before the final performance for family members, the class performed for each of the Grades classes. One wonderful thing to witness was how, after each rehearsal, the students came together with ideas on how to improve different parts of the play. Their ability to make quick decisions and adjustments resulted in a wonderful production for family and friends.

While the team spirit remained high, the students also worked together in class to create a joint poem about some of their favorite Greek gods and goddesses, which will be presented during the final Spring Assembly. They also created Mother’s Day cards for the local senior centers. May our cards bring warm smiles to the women of Arbor Terrace South Forsyth, Comfort Cove, and Towne Club Windermere Senior Living centers!

As we near the end of the school year, the class will wrap up their studies on Ancient Greek stories, prepare for the Spring Assembly, and participate in some fun end of the year activities!
