Kindergarten Turtles: November 18-22, 2024

Greetings, Turtle Families,

Thank you for joining us for the Thanksgiving Luncheon. The students loved sharing our forest classroom with their families; sharing a meal with everyone was extra special. We hope you all enjoyed a week filled with rest, relaxation, and fun adventures with the people you love. Your children and the community we share at the Garden School are a blessing to us, and we are very thankful!

During the week before the break, the children worked on their Thankful Turkeys. They used hole punches to cut out the head and parts of the face and then glued them together. Each student picked colors for their feathers and then used scissors to cut the feather shapes. They sat with a teacher individually and recorded what they were thankful for on each feather. Then they placed their feathers in their Pinecone Turkey.  This was a sweet and fun activity.  Each student has so much to be thankful for and they were proud of their turkeys.

We had a few wet and rainy days. Please check your child’s backpack each night for wet clothes and restock and return their change-of-clothes bags. Please make sure to include socks and underwear (more than one pair of socks would be great). If your child’s clothes are particularly wet, it may be time to treat their waterproof layer with a waterproofing spray or invest in new waterproof layers; on Tuesday, a few students were very wet, despite wearing their rain gear. Another measure to keep their feet dry is to make sure their rain pants go over the tops of their rain boots rather than inside their boots. We will check each child on rainy days, but it is helpful if you remind them as they are dressing before school.

On Friday, we made a Thanksgiving treat as a gift for the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. The children collected pinecones and then used a butter knife to spread a mixture of sun butter and birdseed on them. We tied the birdfeeders with yarn, and each child took their gift and found a place to hang it in our classroom. The children were excited to leave a Thanksgiving feast for the animals while we were away.
