Joyful Beginnings Hummingbirds: March 24-28, 2025
Dear Joyful Beginnings Hummingbird Families,
We enjoy visiting the Bluebird nest once in a while, and last week, thanks to the rain and muddy forest, we had the opportunity to do so again. The Hummingbirds got right to work at the mud kitchen. They also built a bridge with wood pieces and explored the climbing dome and slide, and it didn’t take long before everyone was helping each other out!
At the farm, we had the chance to visit the “other” side, all thanks to our farming teacher, Ki Heidi. The donkeys were happily munching on clover and fresh grass in the back. Ki Heidi showed us the little mud hut that the goats have made their home. Built by the Sixth Graders as an adobe tool house last year, the goats took such a liking to it that pretty windows (glass plates) were added, turning it into a cozy goat hut. The children loved crawling into the space, playing in the golden sunlight that filtered through the glass windows. It was pure magic! They had fun playing with the chickens, exploring the chicken coop, and even finding an egg that they carefully inspected. What a day of adventure!
Picture day brought even more excitement to the week, but the best surprise of all was Ki Alycia’s visit with baby Ru and baby Elias. There were some shy smiles and a few big hugs, but mostly pure excitement to see our dear teacher again! The children were thrilled to spend time with Ki Alycia, and though they were sad to see her leave, they were comforted knowing their teacher will be back following our spring break!
The children were also thrilled to show parents the seeds they planted just a week ago, now growing into tall, healthy wheatgrass. Please enjoy the wheatgrass pots; we’ve included a few extra organic (hard red wheat) seeds for the children to grow more at home. Their paintings from last week turned into beautiful butterflies. It must be spring!
We can't wait to see you all next week for Grandfriends Tea! All students and families are invited to join us from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the forest. The children will be so excited to show off their space and their tools. Ki Alycia will be there to spend time with everyone and help the children transition back to her. And, as always, dear Ki Angela will be there, offering the constant support she’s always provided.
