Second & Third Grade: April 14 - 18, 2025

Hello Second and Third Grade Families,

Last week, the children began construction on their Shelters projects. They were excited to search for materials in the forest, such as sticks, clay, leaves, and vines. Several students filled buckets of red clay during creekcess on Friday. The class is working together to learn about their shelters and give advice on how to build more challenging aspects. Several students worked together constructing a stilt house while others talked through ways to build a Tunisian underground shelter. 

The class also spent time working on the auction project. Ivy’s mom, Katie, assisted us in sewing outfits for the gnomes to accompany our calendar, and the children completed writing the poems they chose in cursive. Thank you to Katie for assisting our class in sewing; the children loved the extra handwork! 

It’s hard to believe that these children will soon be Third and Fourth Graders! While they are growing older, it is beautiful to watch them still enjoying play in the forest during their free time. The newest game that the class is enjoying together is an ice cream shop. They made signs, set up tables, and created a system for payment. They named their flavor “Spring Dream.”

This week, the students will continue to work on the construction of their shelter projects as well as write reports about each shelter. We will also be reviewing reading, writing, and math skills that the children learned earlier in the year.
