Joyful Beginnings Hummingbrids: March 30 - April 3, 2026

Dear Joyful Beginnings Hummingbirds Families,

We hope last week with your children at home was abundantly spent in the sunshine. It is a joy to welcome all of the Hummingbird children back to springtime in our beloved forest.

Just before the break, our week was full to the brim with life-giving moments. Early in the week, the children worked up a sweat scrubbing all of the “magic bee dust” off of their platform with hand brushes and soapy water in preparation for hosting their guests on Grandfriends Day. There was one particularly beautiful moment when each of the nine children sang their very own cleaning song while independently working away. It was a joyful reminder of the grounding nature of purposeful work for young children.

The children were incredibly proud to welcome their special guests to the forest classroom the next day. Thank you all for your thoughtful contributions of tea and tasty bites, and of course, your presence. It is always meaningful to spend time with the Hummingbird grown-ups and siblings in the forest, and Grandfriends Day was truly lovely.

The children ended the week with a special show-and-tell of goose eggs, brought in by a classmate from the pond in his backyard, where baby geese recently hatched. And last, but certainly not least, the children enjoyed a sweet visit from “Alfie” the bunny. A visitor from Plant and Peck, a new local fiber farm, shared her furry friend with the children. Much to their delight, they were able to pet and feed Alfie lettuce.

This week, the children will hear the beloved springtime story Father Sun and the Dandelion Child. As we move into the tail end of the semester, the children will enjoy pondside picnics, short visits to the creek beach, and plenty of warm sunshine as we continue to soak in this beautiful season together.
