Kindergarten Chickadees: March 30 - April 3, 2026

Osiyo, Chickadee Families,

Thank you (and your extended families) for attending Grandfriend’s Day before the break, and making the event fun and magical for the students. It was wonderful to meet and speak with everyone, and give them a glimpse into the work and play the students engage in daily.

Before the break, the students experienced many nature discoveries. They found lost butterfly wings, which they added to the class nature treasure basket. Termites swarmed from an old log just outside the class boundary, prompting awe, inspection of the tiny insects when they landed, and many questions. Caterpillars and lizards are emerging around campus, bringing delighted exclamations and children gathering as they try to catch a glimpse of these adorable creatures. Carpenter bees buzz around the platform, adding their delightful hum to the songs of the birds. The class has observed the foliage in the forest filling out day by day, flowers sprouting from the ground, and the seeds they planted growing rapidly. Even the celery in a cup of water is quickly growing new stalks!

This week begins the last quarter of the school year! Our stories over the next several weeks will primarily encompass longer, more involved fairy tales from around the world. Hearing these stories helps the students build their attention and focus skills, listen for and remember details, and provides deep, important life lessons. They will also engage the children' s sense of wonder and beauty, and introduce them to a wider vocabulary. The new season also brings a new circle, allowing the class to increase their impulse control, rhythm, and listening skills, along with new vocabulary and increasingly challenging movements. Please make every effort to ensure your child is present for morning circle, as a great deal of learning and growth happens in these first 10-15 minutes of class!

At the end of the month, Golden Knights will conclude with a special ceremony in the Golden Knights class and in the individual classes. These brief, class-only celebrations will allow students to feel safe, secure, and ready for new adventures, whether they are students who are moving on to first grade next year,  saying goodbye to older friends and enjoying another year in kindergarten, or undertaking a new adventure outside the school. During the preceding week, all students will also hear a special story to help them process the end of the school year and the changes it brings.

Announcements & Reminders:

Please remember to send your child with TWO FULL WATER BOTTLES every day. Especially now that it is warmer, students are drinking a lot. If they are coming home with water in their bottles, it is likely because we are refilling them throughout the day. Please also send a sweatshirt or light jacket with your child EVERY DAY. Mornings are still chilly, and cooler in the forest. If you have not yet sent water shoes for the spring, please do so as soon as possible. We hope to begin visiting the creek as early as this week, weather depending.

Hope Blooms Annual Auction is on April 24 at 6:00 PM, and we truly need every family’s support. As a key fundraiser for our school, your presence and participation make a meaningful difference for our programs, faculty, and students. This year’s event will feature a lively evening with dinner, drinks, music, and a live paddle raise for class project available only to those attending. Early-bird tickets are available through April 17 (adults only). We hope to see every family there.
