Second & Thrid Grade: March 30 - April 3, 2026
Hello Second and Third Grade Families,
Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful spring break, whether it was spent on adventurous travels or enjoying restful time at home.
Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and participate in Grandfriends Day. The children truly enjoyed the treats and the opportunity to spend time with family and friends. It was lovely to gather in the forest and share a part of our day with all of you. A special thank you to those who came early to help set up, stayed late to clean up, and donated food, drinks, and treats to the class.
Before the break, the class had a busy week concluding our study of Sumerian and Akkadian stories. Our final story was Inanna and the Huluppu Tree from The Epic of Gilgamesh. Like the flood story the children heard earlier in this block, the Third Grade students were able to draw comparisons to Hebrew stories from the previous school year, noting similarities such as a tree planted in a sacred garden and a snake living in the tree.
During extra main lesson time, the class began focusing on our class play. This year, the play is divided into eight short scenes, each illustrating a different story from Aesop’s Fables. With 34 characters, students will take on multiple roles: every student rotates as the narrator, plays one to two minor characters, and one leading role.
The class used yellow or green pencils to highlight their parts as we read through the script together. They also helped identify and correct grammatical, spelling, and tense errors, editing the play as a whole group. Important decisions were made about the fate of certain characters, such as the goose in The Golden Goose scene. Unfortunately for the goose, the consensus was that he would not survive to the end of the play.
In the afternoons, the Third Graders divided into groups to practice their scenes and then performed for their peers. All are excited to tackle this challenging play and cannot wait to perform it for you next month!
