Fourth & Fifth Grade: March 30 - April 3, 2026

Dear Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,

We hope you enjoyed the Grandfriends Day musical presentation and reception. It was a pleasure meeting the extended members of The Garden School community. The students greatly appreciated your presence and continued support!

Before parting ways for Spring Break, the class spent the week wrapping up the Decimal Fractions block. Students were introduced to dividing decimals by a whole number while also reviewing the mathematical concepts for adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimal fractions. As a fun way to close out the block, the class applied their knowledge in an everyday life context by preparing a no-bake cookie dough bar.

After receiving the list of ingredients and the appropriate quantities of each, the students converted the common fractions into the decimal form. Then, they followed the recipe instructions at their own pace. The students worked diligently to ensure accuracy and careful measurement, which ties into reasoning why decimal fractions are used in our everyday lives. After shaping the mixture into the desired shape, they were placed in the freezer to set. The class was able to enjoy them at the end of the school day!

On the final day of the Main Lesson block, students participated in a comprehensive, game show–style review, reinforcing what they had learned over the past month in an engaging and collaborative way.

The class is continuing on diving into the respective roles for May’s Class Play. When the students return from break, we will begin our ninth Main Lesson Block: Greek Mythology. Building on their introduction of Ancient Greek history and culture from December’s block, the students will explore the stories of the Greek pantheon. This continued study will support their understanding of the class play’s storyline, which will help deepen their connection to their respective roles as they work on building their skills in theatrical and expressive delivery.
