Kindergarten Honeybees: March 9 - 13, 2026

Dear Honeybee Families,

This past week felt truly magical as the children played and planted among gently falling white flower petals. The children imagined the petals were snow and delighted in pretending they were in the middle of a blizzard. Even with all the “snow”, we set up our spring nature table together. The children thoughtfully arranged the spring items to create a lovely seasonal scene. Once it was complete, they immediately began weaving imaginative stories and play around it.

With the coming of spring, new creatures are beginning to emerge. We have already spotted many slugs and worms, and even a honeybee! We also enjoy frequent visits from beautiful bluebirds, and the children recently noticed a red-headed woodpecker nearby as well as bright red robins.

Our sandbox has been moved to a new home beside the garden bed,  and with its fresh sand, it quickly became a favorite gathering place. Throughout the week, the children could be found digging, building, and creating imaginative worlds together, their play flowing easily between the sandbox and the garden.

In handwork, the children continued their projects with great care and dedication. Many worked patiently on their sewing, carefully guiding needle and thread through the fabric. Others spent time on their weaving looms, while some practiced finger chaining. A few children enjoyed threading beads with needle and thread, thoughtfully counting each bead until the number matched their age. While our program is play-based and we do not directly teach mathematics, mathematical concepts are naturally and intuitively practiced through our many crafts and handwork projects. In the garden we welcomed the colors of spring by planting basil, hyacinth, pansies, and strawberries. The bright blossoms and fresh greenery have already brought warmth to our space. Each child also planted their own freesia bulb in a small pot to care for. We began by soaking the bulbs in water, then the children carefully filled their pots with soil and nestled the bulbs inside, making sure to place them with the pointy side facing upward. It was a meaningful moment as each child prepared their little pot, looking forward to the flowers that shall soon emerge.
