Specialty Highlight September 2026: Parent Handwork

Hi Garden School Families,

In the spirit of community and connection, Parent Handwork is an opportunity to meet other school families and learn what Handwork class is like for your students. We work outside in a variety of beautiful campus settings, as the weather allows, giving you the experience of our forest school setting. Our Parent Handwork projects often align with the students' Handwork curriculum, offering a window into where your students are and where they are headed as they continue each school year.

Parent Handwork meets most Fridays from 9:00–11:00 AM (watch for announcements on the School Activity Feed and Garden Messenger!). You don't need any experience to join us, and we provide materials! You are welcome to bring your current project as well.

This past month we've been working on hand sewing and embroidery. We crafted needle books and will continue with scissor sheaths after the break. This will become your own sewing kit for future projects! The Fourth Graders complete these projects at the beginning of the school year, so this is a wonderful opportunity to experience a piece of their curriculum firsthand.

Several members of our group recently completed sewn dragons as part of our Day of Courage festival. You'll be surprised what you can accomplish when you have a pattern and others available to help as needed. Even with no craft experience, you'll be able to create sweet toys and useful items to take home! In the future, we will explore many different content areas, including needle and wet felting, knitting, mending, crochet, and more.

We'd love to have you join us! Drop in as you're available. It's a casual meet-up, and the Parent Handwork crew would be happy to welcome you!

Warm wishes,

Ki Heidi
