Kindergarten Honeybees: September 14-18, 2026
Dear Honeybee Families,
We had a full and eventful week in the Honeybee class as we moved into Fall Break week! To celebrate the Day of Courage, we made stars and capes. We talked together about courage and what it means to be brave, and how feeling afraid or shy is actually part of what gives us the opportunity to practice courage.
The children also completed their first sewing project of the school year. They carefully sewed felted stars together, stuffed them with wool and lavender to make them fragrant, and then searched for the perfect sticks to use as handles. After sanding their sticks, we added ribbons to transform them into beautiful shooting-star wands. The children ran joyfully through the forest, waving their wands and proudly admiring their shining creations. In addition to the enjoyment the children receive, projects such as these support the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and a sense of pride in completing a project from start to finish.
The students also made special golden capes! Thank you so much for sending in the flowers. We used marigolds, goldenrod, and turmeric to create a beautiful natural dye bath. The children delighted in the warm steam and earthy scents as they watched the white cloth slowly transform into golden yellow. They loved helping to stir and mix the fabric in the dye bath. It was a beautiful sight to see our capes hanging throughout the forest to dry, with sunlight shining through them and the gentle breeze moving the fabric.
Another highlight of our week was our nature walk. The Honeybees were ecstatic to explore together around campus, visit and feed the animals, gather kudzu, and finally enjoy some joyful play at the large playground. It was a beautiful week of courage, creativity, craftsmanship, and connection with nature.
Welcome back from what we hope was a wonderful and restful September break.
Thank you for all that you do.
