Second Grade: December 16 - 19

This past week, we finished up the block with the story of Judah Maccabee and the story of Channukah.   The students painted the oil lamp that burned for eight days on one drop of oil and copied a short summary of the story.  We also rolled small beeswax candles.  This was a fun block that focused on special people around the holidays we celebrate during this time of year.  As a class, we also looked at adding the suffix “ing”to a verb when we are doing something and “ed” for actions we have already done. We continued practicing building and telling time on an analog clock.  We told time within the hour and minute using the hands of our clock and also drew clocks ourselves.  If possible, please help your child continue to practice this developing skill.

The class enjoyed our pajama day that was filled with crafts, cookies and lots of fun!  It was an exciting way to end a busy semester!  They are such a lovely, gifted and joyful group of friends.  It is fun watching them play, learn and grow together!

It’s amazing and hard to believe we have come to the end of our fall semester!  Thank you all for sharing your child with me!  It is a privledge and a gift to be their teacher.  I hope you all enjoy your holiday break and create many beautiful memories to cherish always!  See you on January 13th, in the new decade!

With gratitude,

Melissa
