Second Grade: April 27 - May 1

I hope the class enjoyed the second week of Anansi the Spider stories. Woven into these stories is the spirit of mischief, humor, plus a few life lessons.  The children had a chance to draw, write, and model with clay to help deepen the experience of each tale. The class also had the opportunity to practice the "cat/kite rule" as their weekly language (spelling) lesson. Math focused on adding and subtracting using seven, as well as playing math games designed to encourage strategic thinking. I hope you all enjoyed a happy May Day last week too!

This coming week we will listen to a few more stories about Anansi the Spider. Our language rule will focus on the "hard g" and "soft g" sounds. Math choices will include adding and subtracting by eight, and a few more strategy-based math games.  There will be another simple, and hopefully fun, spring craft on Friday.

It is always heartening to start the week seeing the students smiling faces at our Zoom sessions. They all look happy and rested. Missing each other the way they do is a blessing!

Have a wonderful week!  I miss you all!

With gratitude,

Melissa
