Dear Second-Grade Families,
The highlight of last week was the lantern walk with our students and families. We gathered around a fire, listened to the story of St. Martin and our fourth graders playing the Ukulele. Then the class ventured into the forest with our beautiful lanterns. Everybody enjoyed the lantern walk, and the students did not get tired of singing along the candle-lit path. Thank you to all lantern walk volunteers and gingerbread bakers for making this evening so enjoyable! And a big thank you also to all who so generously donated coats for our One Warm Coat drive!
This past week, the class transitioned back into a language arts block, exploring the Golden Legends. The students explored the story of St. Martin of Tours, who shared his coat with a poor man during a cold winter night. Then they learned about St. Werburgh, who did not only take good care of people but also of animals. She was especially fond of a flock of geese that she could see from her window every day. The second grade shared two short language arts lessons with the third grade two times this week. The students had fun pairing up and creating sentences together that they later presented to the whole class. The cooperation between the students went so well that they always asked their classmates for help before they turned to the teacher.
In the forest, the whole class had fun playing with a truck tire. The students sent it down the hill through an obstacle course and took turns getting rolled around in it on flat ground. Every day, we enjoyed the turning of the leaves and the warm November days.
